EvoSeedboxBot vs FileBot comes down to where your files live. FileBot is the more complete tool: a desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux with a Groovy scripting engine, music and photo renaming, subtitle upload and a decade of community formats. EvoSeedboxBot does the same core job — identify, rename, organise, fetch subtitles and artwork, automate on finished downloads — but it runs on the seedbox, in a browser, with no licence, and it talks to rtorrent directly. If your media sits on an EvoSeedbox, EvoSeedboxBot is the shorter path. If you organise a local library on your PC, FileBot remains the better buy.

Where FileBot is better
- Scripting. Groovy formats and scripts can express anything — conditional folders from external lists, custom lookups, post-processing. EvoSeedboxBot has the same bindings and an “after each file” command, not a language.
- Breadth. Music tagging with AcoustID, photo renaming by EXIF date, subtitle upload, extended-attribute metadata, Synology and QNAP packages.
- Desktop use. Drag files from Explorer or Finder, rename a USB drive, work offline from the seedbox. EvoSeedboxBot’s desktop build is planned, not shipped.
- Maturity. Fifteen years of edge cases, forum formats and documentation.
Where EvoSeedboxBot is better
- It is already where the files are. No mount, no SSH, no Java: open the app link from the client area and the file browser shows your downloads.
- Seeding is safe by default. The default action is hardlink; FileBot’s desktop default is move, which stops a torrent.
- rtorrent is a first-class source. Finished torrents, labels and paths come from rtorrent itself; no client hook to install or break.
- Nothing to buy or configure. Metadata keys are included; Plex library folders are detected on first start; Nuplex reads the result.
- Nuplex and Plex from one copy, plus id NFO files that Jellyfin, Kodi and Emby read.
If you use a seedbox
Running FileBot against a seedbox means either mounting the seedbox on your PC (slow for identification, which reads file headers) or running FileBot’s command line on the server, which needs a shell and a Java runtime the seedbox does not provide by default. EvoSeedboxBot removes the whole question: the app runs next to rtorrent, and everything it writes stays on the seedbox’s own filesystem, so hardlinks work and Plex on the same box sees the result immediately.
How to switch in three steps
- Install EvoSeedboxBot from the client area (Apps → Automation) and sign in with your seedbox username and password.
- Paste your FileBot format into Settings → TV format / Movie format — the bindings are the same; Coming from FileBot lists the few differences.
- Move your amc parameters into Settings → Auto-organise (same names), pick the labels to process, switch it on.
FAQ
Can I keep using FileBot on my PC as well?
Yes. They do not interfere; EvoSeedboxBot only touches what you organise with it.
Do my Groovy formats work?
Plain formats do. Formats that call Groovy code (closures, external files) need rewriting with the built-in methods.
Is EvoSeedboxBot a fork of FileBot?
No. It is a separate program with the same vocabulary, written for the seedbox.
What does FileBot cost today?
US$8 for a one-year licence or US$80 for a lifetime licence, per user; the Microsoft Store and Mac App Store editions are priced separately.
