When a file is not recognised or matched wrongly

A file shows as unmatched in the preview, or was matched to the wrong title. Both have a reason line under the preview; the fixes below are in the order to try.

“ambiguous or weak match” — Strict refused to guess

Strict only accepts a confident, unambiguous identification. Switch Match to Opportunistic to take the best candidate, then check the preview.

“could not derive a name” or “not a usable name”

The file name has no usable title (for example 04 - Session.mp4). Type the title in Force name; every selected file is then looked up as that series or movie.

The wrong show or movie

1. Same title, different year or country: add the year or country in Force name (The Office (US)).
2. Try another database: TheMovieDB::TV instead of TVmaze, OMDb instead of TheMovieDB.
3. Anime: use AniDB with Order Absolute; see Renaming anime.

Wrong episode numbers

Absolute-numbered files (Show 19) with Airdate order, or DVD-ordered releases, need the matching Order. Multi-episode files (S01E01E02) are handled automatically.

Already applied the wrong match

History → Revert on that run. Then fix the options and apply again. Nothing is deleted by a rename, so this is always safe.

Samples and extras keep appearing

Files named sample/trailer/proof under 250 MB are skipped automatically; the auto-organise minimum size and length settings cover the rest.

Note: the preview’s match column links to the database entry, so you can confirm the identification before applying.
