Jellyfin and Kodi: folder layout and NFO files

Jellyfin, Kodi and Emby identify media from the folder layout and, when present, from NFO files. EvoSeedboxBot writes both, so a library scan finds the right title without guessing.

Folder layout they expect

• Series: Show Name (Year)/Season 01/Show Name - S01E01 - Title.mkv
• Movies: Movie Name (Year)/Movie Name (Year).mkv

Use the Jellyfin / Kodi presets on the Rename tab or in Settings → Auto-organise. The Plex layout works too — the only difference is the year in the episode file name.

NFO files

After every rename or auto-organise run, EvoSeedboxBot leaves an id-only tvshow.nfo in the show folder and movie.nfo in the movie folder, containing the IMDb, TMDb and (for series) TVDB ids in Kodi’s <uniqueid> format. Jellyfin, Kodi and Emby read these and skip name-based lookup entirely. The Nuplex Seedbox Library reads them as well. This is on by default (Settings → write id files); an existing NFO is never overwritten, so libraries managed by Sonarr or Radarr keep theirs.

For full NFO files with plot, cast and ratings plus poster.jpg, fanart.jpg, logo.png and season posters, switch on fetch artwork + NFO under Settings → Auto-organise. Artwork comes from TheMovieDB; posters with ratings overlay adds IMDb/Metacritic/RT strips to the poster.

Refreshing the library

1. Settings → Libraries & notifications.
2. Jellyfin or Emby: server URL and an API key from its dashboard. Kodi: its web-interface URL (http://host:8080) and user/password if set.
3. Save. After each organise run the library is asked to rescan; Test buttons confirm the connection.

Note: Plex ignores NFO files and uses the folder names; both are written regardless, so one layout serves every server.
