Organising finished downloads automatically

Switch on one setting and every torrent that finishes is identified, renamed into your library folders, your media server is told to rescan, and you can be notified — without touching a file. This is the job FileBot’s amc script did, built in.

Switching it on

1. Open the Downloads tab. It lists every finished torrent from your rtorrent with its label.
2. Tick Auto-organise new downloads.

Only torrents that finish after you switch it on are processed. To do the backlog as well, tick also process torrents that finished before enabling in Settings → Auto-organise — or use Organise on individual torrents in the list.

What it does with each torrent

1. Extracts archives (rar, zip, 7z) unless skip archives is set.
2. Drops samples, files under the minimum size (50 MB) or length (10 minutes), and anything matching the ignore pattern.
3. Works out whether the files are TV episodes, a movie or anime (or takes the type from the label map) and identifies them.
4. Renames into the TV, Movie or Anime format — by hardlink, so the torrent keeps seeding. Unidentified files go to the Unsorted folder if keep unmatched files is on; otherwise they are left alone and listed in the report.
5. Writes the id NFO files, fetches subtitles and artwork if enabled, refreshes Plex / Jellyfin / Emby / Kodi, runs your after each file command, sends the notification, stores a report.

Settings that matter

• Trigger labels and Ignore labels — which rtorrent labels are processed. See Using rtorrent labels to route downloads.
• TV / Movie / Anime format and Output folder — set from your Plex libraries on first start; change them to any layout in Naming schemes.
• Match — Opportunistic by default (takes the best guess); Strict only accepts confident matches and leaves the rest for you.
• Clean leftovers after move — only relevant if you change the action to move.

Each run appears in History and can be reverted. Reports are kept per run when store reports is on.

Note: Sonarr and Radarr handle their own downloads. Give their torrents a label and add it to Ignore labels so the two tools never touch the same files.
