Both are one-click installs here. Plex has the most polished apps on every device and works fine on a free account — see our Plex seedbox guide. Jellyfin is fully open source with no premium tier at all — every feature free, forever — at the cost of slightly rougher client apps. Can I stream 4K from a seedbox?
Yes — 4K works well when clients direct-play the file (no transcoding). The 4K guide shows how to set that up; for heavy 4K use the 10 Gbps line gives the most headroom.
How many people can stream at once?
Several, comfortably, when streams direct-play — the constraint is plan resources rather than a fixed cap. Heavy simultaneous transcoding is the thing to avoid on any shared plan.
Do I need Plex Pass?
No. Plex on a seedbox works with a free account. Jellyfin has no paid tier at all.
Does streaming count against my bandwidth?
On the Plex and PleXtreme lines, Plex streaming is unlimited — the quoted bandwidth figures apply to torrent uploads only, and downloads are never counted.
