What Is a Syncthing Seedbox?
Syncthing is continuous, peer-to-peer file synchronisation: it watches folders on two or more devices and keeps them identical, automatically. On a seedbox, that solves the last-mile problem every downloader has — getting finished files home. Instead of firing up an FTP client and dragging files across, your seedbox’s download folder simply appears on your home PC, NAS or laptop, kept up to date in the background over an encrypted connection.
Why Syncthing Instead of FTP or Manual Downloads?
- Fully automatic: a download finishes on the seedbox and starts syncing home seconds later — no client to open, nothing to remember.
- Direct and encrypted: devices talk to each other over TLS. There’s no third-party cloud in the middle and no storage bill for one.
- Resilient: interrupted transfers resume on their own; Syncthing exchanges only the blocks that changed rather than re-sending whole files.
- Two-way if you want it: push files up to the seedbox (a watch folder for torrents, for instance) as easily as you pull downloads home.
Syncthing on EvoSeedbox: What You Get
- One-click install from your dashboard — Syncthing runs in its own isolated Docker container with automatic updates and an HTTPS-secured web interface.
- Self-healing: our App Doctor monitors every Syncthing instance and automatically repairs common failures before you notice them.
- Datacenter uplink: syncs run from a 20Gbps network, so your home connection is the only limit.
- Proven at scale: 112 active Syncthing installs run on our fleet right now — it’s the most popular way our users bring downloads home.
Set Up in Three Steps
- Pick any plan — every EvoSeedbox plan supports Syncthing, starting at $5/month.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is my data encrypted while syncing?
Yes. Syncthing encrypts all device-to-device traffic with TLS, and devices only pair after you explicitly approve their IDs on both sides. Nothing is stored with any third party.
Can I sync only certain folders or file types?
Yes. You choose exactly which folders to share, and ignore patterns let you skip files you don’t want synced — sample files, archives or anything else.
Will a sync eat my seedbox storage allowance?
No — syncing doesn’t duplicate anything on the seedbox. Files sync from their existing location; once they’re home you can delete them from the seedbox whenever you’re ready.
Is Syncthing better than FTP for getting files home?
For recurring transfers, yes: it’s automatic, resumable and encrypted. FTP still makes sense for one-off pulls — your seedbox includes both, plus SFTP. See our comparison of transfer methods.
