What should I back up — surely not terabytes of media?

Usually not. Back up the irreplaceable: app configurations, databases, playlists, documents and any curated content you couldn’t rebuild. Bulk media that can be re-downloaded rarely justifies the cloud storage cost.

Where can backups go?

Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, S3, Backblaze B2, WebDAV, SFTP and more — if you have storage somewhere, Duplicati can probably target it.

How do restores work?

Browse any snapshot in the web UI and restore single files or whole folders — to the original location or a new one. Test a small restore once; future-you will be glad.

Is the encryption really private?

Yes — data is encrypted with your passphrase before upload. Keep that passphrase safe: without it, nobody (including us or your cloud provider) can read the backup.
