Why HandBrake on a Seedbox? #
Video encoding is CPU-intensive and slow on most PCs. Running HandBrake on your seedbox uses the server’s CPU instead, and the converted files are instantly available for Plex streaming — no need to download, convert locally, and re-upload.
Accessing HandBrake #
HandBrake requires a graphical interface. Use Remote Desktop (X2Go) to access your seedbox’s desktop, then launch HandBrake from the applications menu.
Best Settings for Plex #
For 1080p Streaming #
- Preset: « Fast 1080p30 »
- Video codec: H.265 (x265) — smaller files than H.264
- Quality: RF 22 (good balance of quality and size)
- Audio: AAC Passthru (keeps original audio)
For 4K #
- Preset: « HQ 2160p60 4K »
- Video codec: H.265 (x265)
- Quality: RF 20
Batch Encoding #
To convert multiple files: File → Add to Queue for each file, then Start Queue. HandBrake processes them sequentially.
