No. HandBrake is not offered on our seedboxes, and there is no remote desktop (X2Go, NoMachine or VNC) on the server to run it from. Connecting to port 22 with a desktop client returns \u00abThis service allows sftp connections only\u00bb because that port is for SFTP file transfer, not a shell or a graphical session.<\/p>\n
An earlier version of this guide described launching HandBrake over X2Go. That setup is no longer provided on any of our plans, and this page has been updated to reflect what we actually support.<\/p>\n
Our seedbox plans run on shared servers. A HandBrake encode pins every CPU core it can get for the whole job, which is often an hour or more per file, and a batch queue keeps that going for a full day. One customer’s encoding queue would slow torrents, Plex playback and the ruTorrent interface for every other customer on the same machine.<\/p>\n
Keeping CPU-heavy transcoding off the servers is how we keep download speeds and streaming consistent for everyone. The same reasoning applies to other batch encoders such as FFmpeg scripts or Tdarr: they are not part of our app catalogue.<\/p>\n
Download the file from your seedbox, run HandBrake locally, and upload the result if you want it back on the server. HandBrake is free for Windows, macOS and Linux, and a modern desktop CPU or GPU encoder will usually finish a 1080p file in well under an hour.<\/p>\n

Direct Play avoids conversion entirely: Plex sends the original file and your device decodes it, using almost no server CPU. Release groups have already done the encoding work, and the smaller file also saves your seedbox disk space.<\/p>\n When you do encode locally, these presets give a good balance between quality and file size for Plex libraries.<\/p>\n To convert multiple files: File \u2192 Add to Queue for each file, then Start Queue.
